some like it hot

Just quickly  – and sadly sans photo inspiration – I urge you to make yourself a cup of hot buttered rum asap.

In a small saucepan, pop 1 cup water, 1 cinnamon quill, 3 star anise, 2 long bits of orange peel, 1 TBS brown sugar and 2 cloves – bring this mixture to a boil and then simmer for about 5 minutes (have a taste after 5 minutes and see if the spices have infused to your liking). Add about 30g butter and stir until it melts. Take off the heat and add a very big glug of rum (preference last night was for Appleton Estate) – I didn’t measure it but let’s say about 1/3 cup.

Pour into your choice of glass and enjoy – particularly good to make if you’re keen for an 830pm bedtime…this beverage gives such sweet, buttery dreams.
